If an Iowa Whitetail Hunt is your dream, then Old River Outfitters is the right place for you. If you like small group hunting, with little pressure you will be right at home here. Old River Outfitters is a family owned and operated hunting provider in Southern Iowa, just north of the Missouri border. We are located in Appanoose County. We offer archery only deer hunts for a very limited number of hunters each year. This region of Iowa is becoming well known for trophy whitetail deer and the abundance of wild turkeys. Our home farm is 350 acres of hardwood timber, wetlands, river bottom timber, a pine grove, ponds, food plots, ridges and deep wooded ravines. We have hunted this area for years and are extremely familiar with every piece of ground we hunt.
We are not the biggest outfitter around, but that is by design. We feel that low hunting pressure on our property gives our hunters the best chance to harvest their “buck of a lifetime”. The land we hunt is excellent for producing trophy whitetails and turkeys. The other landowners in the area also practice Quality Deer Management, and because of this we have been able to grow and maintain a quality herd of whitetail deer. Because we do practice Quality Deer Management we encourage our hunters to take a mature doe as well as a trophy buck. We feel that maintaining the right ratio of bucks to does is as important as anything else we do to keep trophy whitetails on our property.
At Old River Outfitters we want your hunt to be exactly that, “Your Hunt”. To make sure this happens, we work with each group of hunters well before they arrive. We start by offering you the option of coming to look over and scout the area you will be hunting before the season starts. We will also send you an aerial photo of the area, so you can familiarize yourself with the land you will be hunting. We are available anytime, not just until you book your hunt. We thoroughly enjoy talking with our clients at any time leading up to your hunt. We are avid hunters ourselves and will talk about hunting all year long with anyone that wants to.
Our whitetail hunts are five day hunts and our most of our turkey hunts are three days. We like you to arrive the day before your hunt starts. That day we will give you a tour of the land and show you our stand locations. Mainly you will see the overall layout of the land you will be hunting. We will show you the prime areas of activity at the time, and make suggestions as to where we think you may want to start you hunt, but the final decision on where you hunt is going to be made by you. Remember this is “Your Hunt”. You will be hunting on your own. We will always be there to assist in tracking and retrieval, but once you go into the woods you are on your own. We will meet with you every morning and evening to make sure that everybody is getting to where they want to be, and help you have a successful hunt in any way we can. Everything said here applies to turkey and deer hunting.
